Modern medical practice has seen many advances in imaging over the past ten years. Magnetic Resonance Imaging, CT scanning and Ultrasound investigations have all been added to the repertoire of normal practice. However, the humble chest X-ray remains a crucial first line investigation - particularly for acute medical admissions. Many chest X-rays are requested for a specific purpose e.g. confirmation of pneumonia, but the image may reveal features of previously unsuspected disease of another body system. Digital storage of X-ray images means that a chest X-ray may be viewed at any computer workstation in your hospital. Clinicians now have the opportunity to view these images without waiting for the X-ray packet to be delivered. This can only be advantageous for the patient if the clinician knows what to look for on the image. This book takes you through 200 images in a stimulating manner designed to improve your confidence in reporting the humble chest X-ray.

This is new edition of the book previously called Acute Clinical Medicine in the highly popular Kumar and Clark family. Cases in Clinical Medicine covers in handbook form the complete range of acute medical conditions and problems that junior doctors are likely to encounter during the first years of training. It is divided into chapters reflecting core medical specialties - including infectious diseases; STD; gastroenterology; etc. Each chapter is then subdivided into case-based problems, such as (for example) pyrexia of unknown origin (under the Infectious Disease Group), HIV/Aids (under STD) and Vomiting and Weight Loss (under Gastroenterology). Each problem follows a standard pattern or template: it begins with a case history, and is accompanied by short, succinct text divided up by headings such as 'What are the commonest causes of...'; What factors predispose to...' Where relevant there are also sections on pathology, pathophysiology and prognosis. Important points to note in the acute context are picked out in boxes ('Beware', 'Remember!' and 'Information') as are vital investigations. More than 200 cases

A novel strain of influenza A (H1N1) virus emerged and an outbreak of influenza A (H1N1) occurred worldwide in 2009 and 2010, posing a severe threat to the health of human beings. The two Editors work together in Beijing You An Hospital, to combat this type of influenza. This book, Radiology of Influenza A (H1N1), is intended to provide first-hand clinical data and its scientific analysis, thus supporting sound clinical practice for influenza A (H1N1) prevention and treatment as well as related scientific research. The authors have collected over 100 critical influenza A (H1N1) virus-infected cases. For cases of influenza A (H1N1) that resulted in death, autopsies were performed for 8 cases after receiving their families’ informed consent. Over 200 reports on pathological and histological analysis as well as immunohistochemical and electroscopic analysis were brought together. This book was then compiled by comparing the published data with the present first-hand data. This book includes a wealth of content, including DR, CT and MRI images, pathological and histological figures, and immunohistochemical and electroscopic figures. Related research, clinical and educational needs can be readily satisfied by its detailed data, texts and figures, as well as typical case reports. Li Hongjun, is professor and director of the diagnostic radiology department in Beijing You An Hospital, affiliated with Capital Medical University, Beijing, China.
