She won't let an innocent man hang? When Charity Dawson resigns her father's corporate law firm to pursue a career as a trial lawyer, she gets more of a change than she wanted. She finds herself transported to 1888 Texas in the middle of a murder trial. Turner Reardon is on trial for killing his mistress. He's given up all hope when an oddly dressed young woman disrupts his trial, claiming she can prove his innocence. Her testimony is brilliant, but his optimism is short lived when she also claims she's a lawyer. Charity doesn't know how she arrived in Prairie, and no one believes she actually went to law school. Her evidence is tossed out and Turner is sentenced to hang. She has only one chance to save an innocent man's life and find the real killer.

What, precisely, is the relationship between legality and morality? Does legal validity rest upon moral validity? Are legal obligations moral obligations? For some years now schools of jurisprudential Naturalism and Positivism have become increasingly ambiguous in their responses to these questions. Olsen and Toddington argue that equivocation on the central issue here - that of obligation - has brought legal theory to the point where leading legal positivists and natural lawyers no longer retain significant differences. Instead, they allege, we are left with the remnants of what has always been, philosophically, a phoney war. The authors of this lucid and refreshing analysis of the concept of law, arguing from the perspectives of social science and political philosophy, show that jurisprudence must acknowledge that the political, the moral, and the legal are located within a continuum of practical reason, and that law's 'autonomy' from morality can not entail its 'separation' from it.

In "Make It Your Own Law Firm: The Ultimate Law Student's Guide to Owning, Managing, and Marketing Your Own Successful Law Firm" Spencer Aronfeld writes a personal and revealing account on how to start your own law firm. Whether you are in law school, recently graduated or a practicing attorney thinking of establishing your own law firm, this book provides a step-by-step road map. Aronfeld started his own law practice upon graduation from law school. He provides practical advice that will enable anyone with a deep passion to practice law to become the lawyer that they always wanted to be. Here is what lawyers are saying: "Whether you have ever considered starting your own firm or simply want to improve your practice at your existing firm (whether big or small), I urge you to purchase the book Make It Your Own Law Firm by Spencer Aronfeld, a trial attorney in Miami, Florida. I recommend you buy it not so much for the helpful advice he gives on how to develop your practice (and theres plenty of that) but more for the writing. What Spencer does, which few non-fiction writers can do, is to move you emotionally. He tells stories and puts you in the middle of them with him and makes you feel what he did. It is a unique and valuable gift for a lawyer, because ultimately we are story-tellers and we are tasked not only to affect the jurors minds but also to touch their hearts. Spencers writing style demonstrates he is the consummate story-teller and his diction and cadence and style are worth emulating. So, buy the book. Yes, it has great practice tips. But buy it because you will see what great writing is about. Clear, direct, moving and effective. Keep writing Spencer." Frank Ramos, Esquire

AN EYE FOR AN EYE They are battered women, grieving parents, and burglarized homeowners who responded to criminal violence by taking the law into their own hands. Their cases have struck a deep chord in American society. Are they victims of a failing judicial system or criminals themselves? True crime writer Gary Provost examines the stories of ordinary citizens who have taken on the roles of judge, jury and — sometimes — executioner. Are their acts a higher form of justice...or merely revenge? You decide: * Bernhard Goetz, who shot four teenagers when they approached him on a subway train and demanded money * The young man who gunned down his own friend for killing his teenaged sister in a drunk-driving accident * The mother who risked her life to track down and apprehend her daughter's rapist * "Grambo," the Dallas grandmother who held a burglar at gunpoint for forty-five minutes while waiting for the police * The battered wife who hired a hit man to murder her husband after seventeen years of abuse Fascinating, penetrating, and chilling, Into Their Own Hands is a controversial and thought-provoking look at what's wrong with crime and punishment in America today and what happens when victims don't just get mad — they get even.

Some books cover everything from getting into law school to going to your first interview, or even how to practice law. Others focus solely on taking your exams. This book is about one thing – getting A’s in law school. But it starts at the beginning of school and ends at your final exam. It is the complete package of what you need to get A’s without discussing off-topic items, such as interviewing skills. This isn't another “work harder” or “be more intelligent” type of book. Instead, it teaches anyone how to get A’s by playing the game correctly. The techniques in the book have been tested and proven by numerous law students, and will work for you too. Here is what you will find in this book: • What to expect in the classroom. Want to know what law school is really like? There is a simple technique that you can follow to buy yourself an extra week of studying at exam time. This technique is covered in detail. • Getting the big picture. This book shares that technique with you to get you ahead of the rest of your class in seeing the big picture. • I.R.A.C. The last week or two before exams is the time that separates that A’s from everything else. This book walks you through how to use your time day-by-day. Also learn concrete methods to reduce your material to the essentials and what you should and should not memorize for your exams. Following these techniques will send you to your exams more prepared than nearly all of your fellow students without killing you in the process. • How to Ace the Exam. Learn everything you need to know about how to actually get A’s on your exams (both open and closed book exams). You will learn how exams are graded and why more than just issue spotting is required. Learn how to lay out your exam answer from start to finish in a format that will set you apart from the average student. Using this book’s techniques will alleviate significant stress as you will have a clear game plan and steps that you can follow to maximize your allotted exam time. The step-by-step techniques taught in this book were written by a practicing lawyer. The author was an average undergraduate student, but he graduated at the top of his class after figuring out how to play the game of law school.
