Cardiac disorders are an exciting area of classic pathology and recently defined disease. Cardiac Pathology: A Guide to Current Practice discusses the various disorders and also provides a backdrop of developmental embryology, diagnostic imaging and current therapeutics. Cardiac Pathology: A Guide to Current Practice aims to deliver in bench-book format a comprehensive overview of cardiac pathology that is relevant to those practicing in surgical pathology and autopsy arenas. Clear illustrations of the common styles of dissection are provided along with the normal anatomy and histology. Chapters cover the approach to the autopsy heart, ischemic heart disease, myocarditis, sudden death, valvular disease, transplant pathology, cardiomyopathy, cardiac neoplasia and congenital heart disease with a clear analysis of diagnostic criteria (macroscopic, microscopic and genetic) for both common cardiac diseases and those of rare format. The text is accompanied by high-quality macroscopic and microscopic images and references to other in-depth specialty data sources. Although aimed in particular at pathologists, Cardiac Pathology: A Guide to Current Practice should also be of value to cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons and other professions allied to medicine.

Competencies that are addressed throughout the text are conveniently listed at the beginning of each chapter in which they are referenced. Individual lab activities are included within some chapters to aid in the development of the psychomotor skills related to evaluating general medical illnesses. Instructors will enjoy new ancillary materials such as test bank questions and PowerPoint slides. What's New in the Second Edition: • New chapters on pharmacology; dermatology; and eyes, ears, nose, throat, and mouth • Integration of NATA Position Statements and Consensus Statements • Expanded discussion on the physical exam, including detailed instructions for evaluation procedures • New illustrations and a color atlas • New icons throughout the text to represent action to be taken by the athletic trainer during an evaluation, such as physician referral or activation of emergency action plan Lab Activities Inside the Second Edition: • Use of Pharmacology Resources • Assessment of Temperature • Assessment of Vital Signs (heart rate, blood pressure, and respiration rate) • Cardiac Auscultation • Pulmonary Auscultation and Percussion • Peak Flow Expiratory Rate • Abdominal Auscultation, Percussion, and Palpation • Urinalysis • Assessment of Blood Glucose Levels • Use of the Otoscope • Use of the Ophthalmoscope • Sensory Function • Motor Function • Reflex Function • Cranial Nerve Assessment With expanded discussions and case studies, new chapters and lab activities, and an emphasis on the development of clinical skills, the Second Edition of Clinical Pathology for Athletic Trainers: Recognizing Systemic Disease is a must-have for today's athletic training students and clinicians.

Cardiac tumors were once a nosographic entity of scarce clinical interest because of the rarity and of the intrinsic diagnostic and therapeutic impossibilities, and were considered a fatal morbid entity. It has now become a topical subject due to advances in clinical imaging (echo, magnetic resonance, computed tomography) as well as innovation in technologies of in-vivo diagnosis. Cardiac Tumor Pathology presents a spectacular example of these advances with clinico-pathologic correlations. This timely volume covers history, epidemiology, demographics, clinical diagnosis, pathology, imaging by echo, CT and MRI of both benign and malignant cardiac tumors, either primary or secondary. Chemotherapy of malignant neoplasms is also addressed. Special emphasis is given to clinico-pathologic correlations. With all chapters written by experts in their fields, this volume will serve as a useful resource for physicians dealing with, and interested in, this special branch of cardiac oncology and will represent a useful guide for pathologists, clinicians, cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, and radiologists as well as for postgraduate students training in these areas.

Pathology of Sudden Cardiac Death

Pathology of Sudden Cardiac Death provides a comprehensive review of cardiovascular disorders. While sudden cardiac death could primarily be seen as an arrhythmogenic event, this actually represents the minority of cases. For the vast majority, there is an underlying anatomic disorder of the cardiovascular system responsible for the ultimate hemodynamic collapse known as sudden cardiac death. Although an increasing array of non-invasive diagnostic tools continue to develop, many physicians and operators of these new diagnostic modalities have never actually seen specimens which demonstrate the fundamental pathologic abnormalities. By providing an atlas style review of ischemic and non-ischemic etiologies of sudden cardiac death, this book opens a window to see the underlying pathology first hand.

After the publication of Learning Diagnostic Imaging, which was an introductory teaching ? le to the ten radiological subspecialties included in the American Boards of Radiology, we began to write a series of teaching ? les on each radiological subspecialty. If the ? rst book of the series was mainly aimed at residents and provided them with an introductory tool to the study of radiology, the subsequent volumes of the series try to provide the reader with an introduction to the study of each radiological subspecialty. In Learning Cardiac Imaging, we intend to review cardiac imaging from the p- spective of the six imaging modalities usually performed to obtain anatomic and functional information of the heart. In old days, conventional radiographs gave us some information about the an- omy and, only secondarily, the pathophysiology of the heart. With the advent of echocardiography, the heart could be studied dynamically. Nuclear Medicine and Cardiac MR allowed the study of cardiac function. 32- and 64-detector multislice CT let us obtain images of the coronary tree in a noninvasive approach. Cardiac imaging is complex and many health care professionals are needed, ? rstly, in the obtention and, secondly, in the interpretation of the images. Not only rad- lologists, cardiologists, and nuclear medicine physicians are needed, specialized nurses and technicians are indispensable to obtain diagnostic images of such a dynamic anatomic structure as the heart. The authorship of the book re? ects its multidisciplinary approach of the book.
