Coping with COVID explains to the little ones and the not-so-little ones what the pandemic is and how it affects our lives. It shares how severe this virus is and how hope and love are most needed to get through this without losing our collective minds. It's a guide on how to keep safe, cope with stay home orders, COVID testing, what happens when a child gets sick and that it's okay to feel sad and mad during this challenging time. Hope, not hate with a healthy amount of humor, is the message.I started to write on the 27th of July, 2020, while flying through Tokyo, California, Texas (Houston and then San Antonio) to pick up my kids who spend summer with their mom in the mainland. Then flew back through Houston, L.A., Honolulu, and back home to Guam. Throughout, I saw children struggling with masks and flights where food was not available. So with a notebook and my belief that I can launch a book within a couple of weeks, I rushed to get this out. I borrowed a lot from my favorite philosophers, Dr. Seuss and Mr. Rogers, hearing their voices in my head, spoken by Mr. Tom Hanks, of course. As I write this, I went from a forced two-week quarantine to furlough and now an island-wide stay home order. I started creating like a child, excited about my long-shelved chalk pastels. I hope you enjoy reading this to your little ones and explaining how serious things are right now. Until then, please wear your mask, wash your hands, and please keep your distance. Let's all get through this pandemic safe and well.

This book integrates the evidenced based practice of mind/body medicine, the proven benefits of self-affirmation theory and visualization. This will help to guide and shape your child's response to the various stressors of Covid-19. The pandemic has left many children feeling fearful, uncertain and dysregulated. Research shows, through the practice of self-affirmation theory, children can create a self-identify that is rooted in positivity and a sense of control. When this happens, children are more likely to adapt and handle stressful and challenging situations. Decreasing stress supports a strong immune system, necessary for fighting off illness.

How worried should I be? What information can I trust? What should I tell the children? Can I survive the panic, let alone the virus? These are certainly challenging, unprecedented times. Allow pre-eminent psychiatrist Dr Brendan Kelly to help you understand and cope with the unique stresses of today, as we all try to deal with the threat of COVID-19 within our homes, communities and throughout the world. The anxiety associated with the coronavirus crisis is different to the anxiety seen in traditional disorders, because demonstrably there is something to fear, and that’s what makes this worry so ubiquitous, so persistent and so challenging to manage. The good news is that, just as we are capable of finding sophisticated ways to make ourselves more anxious, we are equally good at finding sophisticated ways to manage our mental health, once we put our minds to it. Anxiety-management techniques help hugely once they are modified to suit the new situation that we face, and in Coronavirus: A Psychological Toolkit, Dr Brendan Kelly will give you all the practical tools you and your family need to navigate these dark, uncertain days.

The Coronavirus (CV) Pandemic has affected all of us, in some way or another. Some of us have been diagnosed with Covid-19 and have survived. Some still have lingering symptoms. You might be what is currently called a Covid "Long-Hauler". Some have not survived. All of us, however, have been impacted psychologically and emotionally, even if we never were affected physically. If not dealt with, the Stress we now feel these days might develop into lingering Covid Mental Health Issues and/or Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). At the time of this writing, we are almost a year into this Pandemic. We are receiving conflicting information on the Pandemic, Politics, the Economy, and many other aspects of our daily living. All this is overwhelming, at least for me. Maybe for you too. Time will tell how this pandemic will linger on in our lives physically, mentally, and maybe even spiritually as the days, weeks, months, and years go on. This book might at least give you some ideas and/or resources for now and in the future, if needed. This book is probably not for those who are thriving in the current situations we are all in at this time. This book is more for those who are slogging through each day, just like me - learning to live "Just for Today".

‘What does it mean when someone says they have Anxiety?’ ‘I’m stressed and nervous all the time, do I have Anxiety?’ ‘Will I ever get better?’ These are some of the questions we want to answer in this book. Is this the Age of Anxiety? Well, how could it not be – when so many millions of us feel that persistent combination of heart palpitations, impending doom, dread, even lack of control, as one of our contributors describes it. The question is, what can we do about it? Through this book we will learn how to distinguish between anxiety as 'an attack of the nerves' or something that will come and go, and Anxiety as a disorder, which will need treatment, including possibly therapy or medication. The conversations are even more pertinent given the global Covid-19 pandemic, prolonged periods of social isolation and an increased focus on mental health and wellness. We learn from coping with Anxiety Disorders, sharing their journey to healing, explaining exactly what would have helped them along the way, as they seek to bust common myths and misconceptions.
