Dr RICHARD CHAPMAN BVSc qualified as a Veterinary Surgeon in 1958 obtaining his degree from Bristol University in England. Of his 57 years in practice, he has spent 9 in England and 48 in Australia. Dr. Chapman practises Veterinary Medicine in the old-fashioned way: feeling with his fingertips, using his eyes, ears, sense of smell and a large dose of intuition. He mixes experience with wisdom, combining old and new practices, the holistic with the allopathic, and bush techniques with modern technology. This manual was written in response to requests from many of his clients who have come to rely on his knowledge and understanding of animals and the illnesses, accidents and ailments which beset them. He has always considered prevention is better than cure, so this book contains many well-proven and simple health-promoting practices. Writing in the same chatty way that he speaks to his clients, Dr. Chapman has provided a treasury of information, re-assurance, tips, and first aid techniques.

When fresh-faced, newly qualified vet Anna arrives in the seemingly sleepy Dorset village of Ebbourne, little does she know that this tiny rural community is about to change her life ... Straight in at the deep end, Anna faces two tricky calvings, an emergency call-out to a frightened mare, lots of mad cats (and mad cat women) and one enormous dog with an injured leg and a threatening bark. Spirited and determined, Anna quickly finds her feet and falls in love with rural life, including Ebbourne’s eccentric characters and their animals. Disasters, dramas, farmers and friendship – and not to mention a whirlwind romance with a local Wildlife Trust worker – this warm and witty memoir offers a window into what working with animals and country life is really all about.

When his father sat him down and told him to 'make something' of himself, young vet Marc Abraham decided to do it the hard way - by setting up an emergency 'out of hours' clinic. If getting used to the long night shifts wasn't bad enough, emergency cases are rarely straightforward. Whether it was dog who swallowed golf balls, or a gerbil in urgent need of a caesarean, every case had the potential for heartbreak. But animals and their owners could also be hilarious, such as the breeder who unwittingly gave his German Shepherd four testicles. . . Over the course of twelve tough months, the clinic began to flourish. Would Marc finally make something of himself after all? Marc Abraham writes guilelessly about his early mistakes, and the terror and joy involved in saving an animal's life. His memoir is a heart-warming, compelling and thoroughly entertaining look at the life of a vet on call.

'A delightful read' RADIO TIMES 'Heartwarming tales' DAILY MAIL A celebration of the different creatures - great and small - that this Yorkshire vet has come to know and love. Yorkshire Vet Julian Norton has spent his days as a mixed practice vet treating animals across the bucolic Yorkshire Dales. Julian's voice and humour - well known from his titular role in Channel 5's long-running series The Yorkshire Vet - leap out from every page as stories of drama and excitement unfold. Whether treating dogs, cows or sheep, Julian has come to recognise and appreciate the very particular ways in which healthy and happy animals express their well-being and contentment. Lambs will skip and gambol, cows will ruminate placidly, and the gentle sounds and soft curious facial expression of alpacas or llamas are enough to lift the spirits and warm the coldest of hearts. Here in All Creatures, Julian tells the stories of each of the eight species he has the good fortune to care for every day. He shares the heart-warming and life-affirming characteristics of animal happiness and once again reminds us of the power these creatures have to bring joy to us all.
