From 1977 to the end of 1986, Duncan McNab was a member of the NSW Police Force. Most of his service was in criminal investigation. The many unsolved deaths and disappearances of young gay men are the crimes that continue to haunt him. Around 80 men died or disappeared in NSW from the late 70s to early 90s during an epidemic of gay-hate crimes. The line between a vicious assault and murder is a slender one and this was a time of brutal attacks on gay men, featuring gangs of young thugs like the 'Parkside Killers' and 'Bondi Boys', who took to the growing gay rights community with fists and feet. Even more troubling are incidents in which gay men disappeared and have never been found, or where deaths were initially dismissed by the NSW Police as either misadventure or suicide. We now know that a number of these men were hunted down by gangs and thrown over beachside cliffs near the nation's top tourist spots. Investigation of crimes against gay men wasn't always high on the list of priorities for the police and over twenty years later they are still slow to come to grips with their own dismal track record. The families of the victims, and some journalists, have not given up and continue to push the NSW Police Force for more answers. This book is the story of a unique time in our history when social change, politics, devastating disease and police culture collided, and you could get away with murder.

Getting Away With Murder is an explosive investigation into the death of an American hero, the strange case of the “American Taliban,” and why we never got the truth about either—until now. When John Walker Lindh was arrested in November 2001, Americans were shocked to learn that one of our own had fought for the Taliban. He would come under further fire for the torture and death of CIA officer Mike Spann. The American public was outraged, and the Bush administration vowed to make an example of the traitor. Why then, after threatening treason and the death penalty, did the government suddenly abandon a trial in favor of a soft plea deal? Richard D. Mahoney puts these questions on trial; the final verdict promises to be shocking.

Despite a decline in the number of murders in the United States since the 1960s, thousands go unsolved each year. As of 2013, the solve rate was at an all-time low at only 65 percent of the total committed. The 15 murders profiled in this book were committed between 1958 and 2014. The oldest of the set involves the bizarre murder of Pearl Eaton, one of the famous Ziegfeld Follies Girls of the 1920s. From the beginning, the crime had no leads or suspects and remains among the coldest of the 15 unsolved crimes. The most recent – the murder of four members of the McStay family found buried in the California desert in November 2013 – is under active investigation.

During the early twentieth century, nearly 200 anti-lynching proposals were introduced in the United States Congress. Getting Away with Murder argues that constitutional defenses for these proposals were merely excuses for Southern Democrats’ racist attitudes toward black Americans and for giving private citizens a license to murder.

By the lead commissioner of the UN investigation, an authoritative account of Benazir Bhutto’s assassination. On December 27, 2007, a suicide bomber killed Benazir Bhutto, the former prime minister of Pakistan. Brilliant and charismatic, the head of a political family as important to Pakistani history as the Gandhis in India or the Kennedys in the United States, Bhutto had recently returned from exile to challenge military dictator Pervez Musharraf in a democratic election. In the aftermath of the assassination, some blamed Musharraf; others blamed terrorists linked to the Pakistani security service, the ISI; still others pointed the finger at Bhutto’s own spouse and entourage; and some speculated that it was a lone wolf attack. Though the individuals behind the conspiracy have never been found, in Getting Away with Murder Heraldo Munoz goes further than anyone else to unravel the mystery of Bhutto’s death. Moreover, he explains the unexpected role America played in the tragic events, the byzantine relationship between Pakistan and the United States, and how Bhutto’s assassination impacted world politics. In a country ruled more often by military dictators than by elected governments, Bhutto offered a secular, democratic hope. Arguably one of Pakistan’s most iconic political figures, she became one of the world’s few female heads of government. Her assassination tore the country apart, destabilizing the entire region. Leading the United Nations’ inquiry, Munoz delved into murky world of Pakistani politics and the infamous Bhutto family, awash in charisma and power, controversy and violence. His year-long investigation frames a story of betrayals, corruption, foreign influence, and unsolved political assassinations. Munoz provides new insight into Bhutto’s unprecedented rise and an unflinching, minute-by-minute narrative of the assassination itself. With impeccable research, Munoz also situates Bhutto in the decades-long history of U.S.-Pakistan relations and the emergence of global terrorism, pinpointing her death as the moment when those relations changed forever. The result is a gripping narrative of Pakistan’s turbulent political realities and the death of its leading politician.

One time jewel thief Lenny Hamilton is still a well-known character in the East End. Respected for actually castigating the Kray brothers on television while they were still alive, he wrote his autobiography, Branded by Ronnie Kray, which detailed Lenny's own life and the night when Ronnie Kray branded him with red-hot pokers.Lenny was an outspoken critic of the Krays even before their deaths and he has attempted to put the record straight concerning their celebrity status, work for charity and the number o murders they committed aside from the well-known victims Jack 'the Hat' McVitie and George Cornell. Lenny knew both of these men and believes that they didn't deserve to be murdered. This is Lenny's second book, written with Craig Cabell, which blows away the myths surrounding the Kray murders and details other victims of the evil 'Brothers Grim'.Discussing the Twins' life of crime with friends and acquaintances, backed by cross-referenced quotes and other documentation - some from the National Archive - Lenny has created a highly credible story that debunks the Krays' celebrity status and shows them as even more reckless and murderous criminals than formerly believed. Getting Away with Murder is the shocking story of Britain's most famous gangsters.

In March 1969, twins Reggie and Ronnie Kray were sentenced to life imprisonment for the gangland killings of George Cornell and Jack "the hat" McVitie. It was recommended that they served at least 30 years for their crimes. But why such strong sentences? Were there other murders? At last the truth can be told. The authors have negotiated rare interviews with the people close to the Krays criminal activities, people who have never stepped forward before but have done so now to tell the truth concerning the East End's bloodiest killers. This is the shocking true story of the Krays' reign of terror. With a special foreword by ex-gangster Eric Mason, this is the most authentic first-hand document of the Kray Twins. Prepare to be disturbed.
