In recent years, growing attention has been focussed on real estate education. The objective of Real Estate Education Throughout The World: Past, Present and Future is to document the current status and perspectives of real estate education and the underlying research throughout the world. The intent is to inform students, academics and practitioners about the situation in the widest possible range of countries and to provide a foundation for the future of the real estate discipline. The structure of this monograph follows the organisation of the world-wide network of real estate societies. In Part 1, Stephen E. Roulac sets the framework for the other contributions. Part 2 contains 20 chapters that examine real estate education in Europe. Part 3 consists of two articles covering North America. Part 4 includes two chapters dealing with Latin America. In Part 5, 8 countries in Asia are examined. Part 6 contains two chapters covering the Pacific Rim. Finally, Part 7 focuses on Africa. This collection of papers is unique, in the sense that 50 authors have contributed to the monograph and 37 countries or regions in total are covered. The editor does not know of any comparable book.

Integration of processes and supporting IT tools is a key factor for successful Facility Management. After a review of the present situation of Facility Management the author describes an integrated" process model for the conception, planning and construction processes of facilities, providing integration into the whole life cycle. The target costing method is presented as a means to grant proper conception, planning and construction in accordance with the needs of the investor, the user and the operator. To be able to provide figures for the target costing methodology, a concept for efficient IT process support during the utilisation phase is developed. This includes two levels: the operative level and the controlling level based on the data of the operative processes. The concept is based on standard reference models of the key FM processes of the utilisation phase and on an analysis of the existing functionality of the relevant IT tools. A concept for the integration of existing IT tools is presented, that provides the necessary interaction and data exchange to support the newly introduced parts of the workflow. Based on this integration unified objects are defined, combining the distributed information of the FM business objects. This results in a joint FM database structure. The support of the operative processes and the joint data structure enable standardised calculation of benchmarks for controlling purposes. Finally, these benchmarks are the basis for a statistical method that allows the calculation of the utilisation costs in the conception phase.

Simon Kempf has developed hedonic (quality-adjusted) office rent indices for German metropolitan areas. His study explores new territory as it constructs, for the first time, such indices for Germany. The author thereby has taken into account the different qualities of the underlying lease contracts regarding location factors, lease factors, building factors, equipment and layout factors of the office rental unit – using more than 22,005 office lease contracts stored in the Rental Databank of IPD GmbH in Wiesbaden. This hedonic index construction methodology is well known among real estate researchers and statisticians, but it has been mainly used in the residential sector. As a second novelty the multiple imputation method in the statistical analysis to solve the problem of missing data is employed. Quality-adjusted office rent indices serve as market and economic indicators as well as a bench-marking instrument.

Master's Thesis from the year 2014 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: B, Henley Business School University of Reading (Department of Real Estate & Planning), course: Independent Study, language: English, abstract: Purpose – To explore current practice and integrate proposed concepts from academic literature into a more comprehensive conceptual framework for workplace solution planning that is applicable to professional services firms. The paper aims for facilitating holistic considerations of strategic opportunities and, therefore, may enhance approaches in the early stages of workplace transformation projects. It also presents a critical reflection of the contemporary cost reduction paradigm. Design/methodology/approach – Review of literature from a wide range of academic disciplines and practitioners. Findings – In the realm of contemporary workplace solutions there is little evidence to be found of an evolution of CREM towards a truly strategic discipline but it still appears to be focused on operational metrics in the aftermath of the greatest recession after World War II. Originality/value – This paper integrates findings and theories from different disciplines in order to create a contextual understanding about the nature of knowledge work and the requirements for productivity-focussed workplace solutions in multinational professional services firms.
