Everyday Blessings is a practical and inspiring book which offers a clear outline for people who want to understand and embrace mindful parenting. It is one of the few books on parenting that embraces the emotional, intuitive and deeply personal experience of being a parent and shows you how to apply the practice of mindfulness meditation to parenting children of all ages. In the rush, rush, rush of too-much-to-do-and-no-time-to-do-it , the important, nurturing aspects of parenthood can easily disappear. Even the smallest degree of mindfulness can have profound effects on children, no matter how old they are, and on the quality of parent-child relationships. Jon Kabat-Zinn, a mindfulness pioneer, and his wife Myla share their experiences of using mindfulness within their own family. By encouraging moment-to-moment awareness and acceptance, this thoughtful and practical book will help you to slow down, grow in compassion, enrich your life as a parent and nourish the internal life of your children.

Despite its inherent joys, the challenges of parenting can produce considerable stress. These challenges multiply—and the quality of parenting suffers—when a parent or child has mental health issues, or when parents are in conflict. Even under optimal circumstances, the constant changes as children develop can tax parents' inner resources, often undoing the best intentions and parenting courses. Mindful Parenting: A Guide for Mental Health Practitioners offers an evidence-based, eight week structured mindfulness training program for parents with lasting benefits for parents and their children. Designed for use in mental health contexts, its methods are effective whether parents or children have behavioral or emotional issues. The program's eight sessions focus on mindfulness-oriented skills for parents, such as responding to (as opposed to reacting to) parenting stress, handling conflict with children or partners, fostering empathy, and setting limits. The book dovetails with other clinical mindfulness approaches, and is written clearly and accessibly so that professionals can learn the material easily and impart it to clients. Featured in the text: Detailed theoretical, clinical, and empirical foundations of the program. The complete Mindful Parenting manual with guidelines for eight sessions and a follow-up. Handouts and assignments for each session. Findings from clinical trials of the Mindful Parenting program. Perspectives from parents who have finished the course. Its clinical focus and empirical support make Mindful Parenting an invaluable tool for practitioners and clinicians in child, school, and family psychology, psychotherapy/counseling, psychiatry, social work, and developmental psychology.

You try to be supportive through all the emotional ups and downs, but if you’re too supportive, they feel smothered. You want to give them the freedom necessary to grow, but not so much that they’re left vulnerable—and however you try to do it, you can count on being wrong. Parenting a teenager is a challenge, to be sure, but Eline Snel has some very good news for those facing that challenge: there’s a way to stay mindful, present, and, yes, positive throughout it all by developing a base of mindful awareness as your resource. With her characteristic practical wisdom, Snel provides methods for developing that resource, along with strategies for forging a bond of courage, compassion, and trust with your teenager—and for making space for yourself within the process too. Mindfulness meditation helps us stay calm in tense moments and be less reactive with our children. It allows us to respond to them in ways that are most helpful and that promote dialogue rather than clashing. The practices that Snel teaches, developed in her clinical work and honed in her own experience as a parent, are supplemented with one audio download of guided meditations for parents and another one for teens. They will help you calm down during tense and heated moments and become a more focused and openhearted parent.

How to avoid fatal parenting mistakes that even professional pedagogues make... We all know the uncontrollable rage of our children when they don't get what they want. And unfortunately, those tantrums go far beyond the typical ice cream discussions in the supermarket. You and your children are two different human beings, each of you with their own needs and desires. Since you can't read each other's minds, effective communication is fundamental for a healthy relationship between parents and their kids. But how do you stay calm when Peter is hooked to his PlayStation console, Anna refuses to do her chores and John neglects everything you say? In a world where every day feels like another Formula One race, it can be challenging to step back, reflect and listen instead of throwing a fit. Parents' unconscious daily behavior often leads to: Setting unreasonable boundaries Using harsh discipline Being absent Having sky-high expectations ...and overall disconnecting from their kids. Down the line, this will lead to troubling behavioral patterns in your children such as: Being overbearing Anxiety Depression Low self-esteem ...and other major physical and mental struggles. The key to maintaining a calm, peaceful and balanced family life is called peaceful parenting. This is only a select sample of what you'll discover in Peaceful Parenting and Mindfulness for Parents and Kids: A step-by-step guide to the number #1 parenting technique for parents who really care about their kids' happiness Fad or Fab? Simple and fun mindfulness activities to do with children up to age 11 to build beneficial lifelong skills that promote resilience, joy, focus and calm, and improve overall wellbeing. Helping children to be more mindful is a powerful gift. By being mindful they will learn to recognise and manage their emotions, be more able to calm down when they are upset, become better at focusing on important tasks, and be more able to interact with others with empathy and generosity. These are fundamental skills that children will need throughout their life, but that they often aren't taught explicitly. Think of how often we demand that children “pay attention” or “calm down”, without ever having shown them how to do so. Now parents can, with help from mindfulness expert Sarah Rudell Beach. Parents first learn how to be more mindful themselves before teaching their children basic mindfulness skills. With easy-to-follow activities, chapter by chapter children learn to Soothe, Focus, Feel, Pause, Appreciate and Connect. Each activity includes variations for different age groups, along with "emergency" how-tos for particularly stressful moments.

A mindful approach to parenting that helps children (and their parents) feel happier, healthier, calmer, and less stressed in our frenetic era Rooted in the science of the brain, and integrating cognitive neuroscience and child development, Mindful Parenting is a unique program that speaks directly to today's busy families who make up what Dr. Race calls "Generation Stress." Research has shown that mindfulness practices stimulate the prefrontal cortex of the brain. Regular stimulation of this part of the brain helps us feel happier, healthier, calmer, less anxious, less stressed, and makes it easier for us to concentrate and think clearly—the very behavior we are hoping our children will display. Dr. Race provides: An explanation of the way the brain works and why parents and kids today are more stressed, anxious, and angry than ever before Practical solutions to the problem: Things parents can do to change brain patterns and create a more relaxed and happier home "Brain Coolers": Quick tips that can be used in the moment to help families relax, recharge, and create happiness (such as "The Three Breath Hug") Mindful Parenting understands the realities of raising a family in our fast paced and often-frenetic world and provides hundreds of easy-to-implement solutions, both for parents and their children, to help them manage stress, create peace, and live happier lives. "This book is a must-read for all parents of our generation.” --Sara Blakely, founder of Spanx

Parents today juggle the demands of young children with busy work schedules, and often find themselves overwhelmed and overworked. With such busy lives, it is easy to see why parents often find they are impatient and unfocused when it comes to parenting. App's, that are easily downloaded onto mobile phones can provide quick and easy access to all kinds of information for people on the go. App's that promote meditation and mindfulness have become widespread, and allow for people to check in and re-center themselves anytime, anywhere. The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether the use of a meditational app called HeadSpace at least three times per week could help parents increase their level of parental efficacy. Finding ways to decrease the frustration level for parents and increase patience and problem solving abilities was the goal of this study. We hypothesized that after three weeks of implementing the meditation technique, parents would feel that they were more effective in their overall parenting. This is a mixed method study design, and participants for this study were recruited through online parenting networks and snowballing. Data was analyzed by comparing the Qualtrics surveys from weeks one, two and three of the study for each participant. The study involved giving an intervention and then observation. Intervention/Observation cycle was repeated two more times and the data was used to measure the levels of parental efficacy following subsequent interventions. iii This study found that the intervention was most effective for parents with at least three children. The intervention was also much more effective when parents implemented the meditation technique at least three times per week, as opposed to once per week. Parents who remained in the study and went on to do the intervention for the second and third week had much higher levels of success than parents who only attempted the intervention for one week. This study has illustrated the potential for researchers of mindfulness and parental efficacy to collaborate with mindfulness practitioners and those in the field of educating parents to create a mindfulness practice specifically geared towards parents.

Sometimes it just takes one little secret to make parenthood everything you thought it could be... It's a familiar feeling, you are sat at the dinner table and your child is acting up. You have tried everything you thought was right. After a long day of work, it feels like your child is purposefully pushing your buttons. No parent wants to lose control and shout at their kid, but it happens. Maybe you think that at least you are disciplining your child... but studies show that long term it leads to poorer parent-child relations and is consistently ranked the worst disciplining method by child behavior psychologists. No parent wants to have a bad relationship with their child, but if they don't take the time to watch their own behavior it can happen without them even realizing. Aileen Jarvis & Rowan Roffe are child developmental specialists and have seen this happen over and over again. One of the most common issues they faced when working with children has always been the way in which the parents are just so radically underprepared to cope with the stress of raising a child. While working together they realized that if they wanted to make a real and lasting impact on a child's life, they had to start at the core, they had to start with the parents. Ever since then they have worked tirelessly to bridge the divide between parent and child and teach parents the secrets of mindful parenting. Since seamlessly integrating mindfulness into their therapeutic approach, they have gone from success to success. The impact that they made on the child by simply slightly adjusting parental behaviors has been so successful that they have made it a fundamental part of their treatment process. For the first time ever, they are releasing their parenting roadmap in book form, for much less than the price of an expensive therapy session. In Mindful habits for better parents, discover the secrets: Mindfulness, what's all the fuss about it anyway? What really is going on inside the brains of your kid? Can mindful parenting bring you closer to your partner? 5 little things that you probably aren't getting right Habits you need to start doing as soon as possible 3 simple tricks that will stop from you losing your cool It is never too late to learn new parenting techniques and Aileen Jarvis & Rowan Roffe have even had success with older teenagers. In their long career, they have collectively dealt with over 10,000 children from every age bracket. Mindful parenting has proven to be one of their most effective techniques for connecting children with parents in over 89% of all cases that they have dealt with. Ultimately, your goal will always be to raise your child as best as possible. To love them and care for them. No more will you have to worry about the stress of a tantrum in public or your teen not obeying curfew.
