"Talking doesn't work, for it immediately creates mental representations that are going to take on a life of their own. Remaining silent doesnt work either. Sitting zazen doesnt help. Koan-training doesnt help. [..] Studying doesnt help. Nothing works. Maybe you recognise this experience yourself. It is in every respect also my own experience, and the story of my life. And yet at the same time, there is the other side: that there can be unlimited trust, that life itself is limitless faith, boundless openness". The Zen talks of Ton Lathouwers are always personal in tone. They are actually testimonies in which he weaves together his own experiences with references to his voraciously wide reading. He enjoys illustrating his insights with texts drawn from a variety of literary and spiritual traditions, both Eastern and Western -- the intercultural dialogue is close to his heart. The Zen talks collected here date from 1999 and have gone through many reprints since their first publication. That is because Lathouwers speaks from heart to heart and truly knows how to convey the faith that everyone -- without exception -- is capable of finding his or her own personal answer to the great mystery of existence.

One of the hazards of parenting is that our children might have questions that we don’t have an answer to. That can be disastrous because our children expect us to know more than they do. Wrong answers can be worse than no answers because the child may have already decided what the right answer may be and is just checking to see if what they have already decided is correct. To come up with something less believable than what they have determined to be the truth tells the child they can’t come to you for answers.

At 30, Duncan Bannatyne had no money and was enjoying life on the beaches of Jersey. He saw a story of someone who had made himself a millionaire, and decided to do the same. Five years later he had done it, and now he is worth £168 million. In this remarkable book, Bannatyne relives his colourful path to riches, from ice cream salesman to multi-millionaire, explaining how anyone could take the same route as he did - if they really want to. Hugely articulate, and with numerous fascinating and revealing stories to tell, this is an autobiography and a business book unlike any other - but then Bannatyne isn't like any other businessman, either.

Robert Henry Wright, Jr., a resident of the Idaho Panhandle since 1988, has published Ten Percent Marriage, a second novel set in the Sandpoint, Idaho, area. Wright categorizes Ten Percent Marriage as a love story, an action story, and as personal relations in an outdoor setting. To escape the horror of a sadistic sexual assault that had left her with an illegitimate child and a shattered life before that life could begin, Emily has been living in a cabin at Arrowhead Point beside Lake Pend dOreille in northern Idaho. She had exiled herself there thirty years ago at age seventeen. Harvey considers himself to be one of Gods chosen losers, as he had lost at everything he had truly wanted to win: the state high school football championship; his son; and his wife. The final blow was having been presented with an early retirement package and shown to the door. Aimless and defeated, he goes to see a piece of land he had won in a bour game years before; the land is located at Arrowhead Point beside Lake Pend dOreille in northern Idaho. Emily and Harvey meet; they clash; they become attracted to each other; but there are obstacles to overcome. Harvey discovers that there are two Emilys: Ewn and Et. Ewn is the dominant personality, a passionate artist who has a well developed phobia of males. Et is fun loving, flirtatious, reckless, and has a mania for males. To Harveys dismay, Emily is Ewn for ninety percent of the time and Et for the remaining ten percent. Oth

This book attacks a poison that for so very long we have called political correctness. Political correctness (PC) is the act of avoiding expression or language that can perceptively be construed as marginalizing by specific minorities or demographic groups. It is often difficult to argue against PC, because supporters of PC are likely to claim that contrary to using PC, one would instead use expressions or language that offends, which is oft what I wind up doing. This response is a false conflation of permitting and condoning, but the fallaciousness usually doesn’t deter those who want to win the argument. It’s easy to accuse someone of simply seeking justification to use epithets in order to put him on the defensive and into the unenviable position of having to assert that he’s not a racist. It’s also dirty and hateful to do so, and that’s how such responses should be considered. We also review Agenda 21, Document 7277, the Illuminati, the Club of Rome, and the Committee of 300 in brevity. We discuss the New World Order and speculate about megaregions and their locations both in the United States and abroad. We take a very long train ride from the most southern tip of South America all the way to New Zealand, and we discuss possibilities for a likely location for the capital of the world (that may surprise you). We even speculate about a location right here in the United States for a habitat for useless eaters. We discuss how close we have come in our society to achieve all the goals of the New World Order. I really hope you enjoy the read.

Southern Appalachian native Dan Levenson and Mel Bay Publications present Clawhammer Banjo from Scratch - A Guide for the Claw-less! This book teaches clawhammer banjo the way we play, not the way others say. It really begins as though you really have NO knowledge of how to play the five string banjo clawhammer style. Based on Dan's innovative Meet the Banjo program (where Dan brings 15 banjos and teaches players who may have never held a banjo), this book assumes no prior experience. Beginning at the beginning, Dan presents a brief history of the 5-string banjo then goes over the parts of the banjo, holding the banjo, right and left hand positions and his basic clawhammer strum. Even the strum is broken down into the steps of the finger and thumb. You are guided through the chords, the scale and then the individual notes of each of 12 jam session favorite tunes from scratch. Includes 2 reference CD's with all exercises, tunes (slow and up to speed), and a fiddle version of each tune.

Finding Ourselves at the Movies

Academic philosophy may have lost its audience, but the traditional subjects of philosophy—love, death, justice, knowledge, and faith—remain as compelling as ever. To reach a new generation, Paul W. Kahn argues that philosophy must take up these fundamental concerns as we find them in contemporary culture. He demonstrates how this can be achieved through a turn to popular film. Discussing such well-known movies as Forrest Gump (1994), The American President (1995), The Matrix (1999), Memento (2000), The History of Violence (2005), Gran Torino (2008), The Dark Knight (2008), The Road (2009), and Avatar (2009), Kahn explores powerful archetypes and their hold on us. His inquiry proceeds in two parts. First, he uses film to explore the nature of action and interpretation, arguing that narrative is the critical concept for understanding both. Second, he explores the narratives of politics, family, and faith as they appear in popular films. Engaging with genres as diverse as romantic comedy, slasher film, and pornography, Kahn explores the social imaginary through which we create and maintain a meaningful world. He finds in popular films a new setting for a philosophical inquiry into the timeless themes of sacrifice, innocence, rebirth, law, and love.

There are some key-points, that most DJs would like to know before their first performances. In this book, I reveal them, while sowing what makes the obvious difference between a successful DJ and one that isn’t. During my very rapid ascension into international popularity, I was hated by many, because they couldn’t understand how this was possible for me, and they thought that I was being lucky. In fact, it’s easy to hate someone that is lucky every single time, but also naive and stupid to feel that way. A smart person would wonder what I know that nobody else, with years in music, can understand. A smart person, would buy this book and learn it. But an even smarter person, wouldn’t hate or judge me, but instead improve from what is already known and described here. That’s why this book can change the whole career of those that are still starting in music, by helping them guarantee their path to success. And I openly share these years of secrecy with who is willing to learn them and ready to accept them.

This is the story of my life, the death of that life, and my existence after my life’s death. It may not always be up-beat, but every feeling is honest. I wrote it to be read as though we were sitting at my kitchen table having coffee and talking. I don’t presume to be a scholarly writer, so bear with me when I ramble. There is a message integrated in the pages that will affect everyone and will, hopefully, help someone; maybe even you. THIS BOOK WAS WRITTEN IN RETROSPECT. SOME OF THE NAMES HAVE BEEN CHANGED TO PROTECT THE GUILTY, AS WELL AS MYSELF.
