The celebrated novelist and poet presents his philosophy of literature and art through an in-depth analysis of Thomas Hardy in this restored edition. Though D. H. Lawrence was one of the great writers of the twentieth century, his works were severely corrupted by the stringent house-styling of printers and the intrusive editing of timid publishers. A team of scholars at Cambridge University Press has worked for more than thirty years to restore the definitive texts of D. H. Lawrence in The Cambridge Editions. Originally intended to be a short critical work on fellow English novelist Thomas Hardy’s characters, D. H. Lawrence’s Study of Thomas Hardydeveloped into a sweeping articulation of his views on literature and art. Though Lawrence destroyed the original manuscript, the work was published posthumously. This restored and authoritative edition also includes essays spanning the whole of Lawrence’s writing career, with an introduction contextualizing them within Lawrence’s life and work.

Family is a fortress. Parental and sibling bonds are unshakable. The flourishing of loyalty and love is the desired blessing of every man and woman. But that perspective got lost somewhere. Family is trivial. Children just a consideration. They disorganize a couple's tidy life. They're messy, harmful to the environment, financially and physically exhausting. Chris and Wendy Jeub invite couples to reconsider this skewed perspective toward the blessing and heritage of children. They grapple with modern arguments like population control and the environment, but turn quickly to root hesitations like fear and family dysfunction. And they encourage you to following God's prodding to have and love another child, a most excellent calling indeed.

The journal Civil Lines was conceived in the 1990s to publish the best new Indian writing in English. The first issue (1994) soon garnered a cult readership with works by writers like Arvind Krishna Mehrotra, Ramachandra Guha and I. Allan Sealy. Claiming the magazine’s irregularity itself as a guarantee of quality, Civil Lines continued issues erratically. It encouraged a new wave of Indian English writers and laid the ground for, among others, Ruchir Joshi, Siddhartha Deb, Suketu Mehta, Amitava Kumar, and Manjula Padmanabhan, who went on to become established writers Ramachandra Guha’s first brilliant essay, a five-finger exercise in literary anthropology which appeared in the inaugural issue, andAmitav Ghosh’s reflective essay on the Indian practice of the short story as well as a wonderfully fluent translation of one of Tagore’s most famous tales, Kshudhita Pashan (The Hunger of Stones). This volume, edited by Rukun Advani (one of the four original editors),brings together the finest essays, stories, and poems in the first five issues of Civil Lines, all of which are now out of print and hard tocome by. For anyone interested in the finest recent Indian writing in English, this is the book to possess.

As a woman lies at death's door in hospital, her touching story, encapsulated in her diaries, springs back to life. In Miss You Forever, Josephine Cox writes a spell-binding saga of hidden lives and lost loves. Perfect for fans of Rosie Goodwin and Dilly Court. One winter's night, in the coal-hole in her yard, Rosie finds that a woman sheltering there has been severely beaten by thugs. At a glance, Kathleen looks like an unkempt, aged vagabond who tramps the roads carrying all her worldly possessions in a grubby tapestry bag. Her only friend is the mangy old dog who accompanies her; the sum of her life is in the diaries she so zealously guards. Yet close up, Rosie can see that Kathleen has a gracious beauty - the 'look' of a respectable lady of means. In hospital, fighting for her life, yet moved by Rosie's care and compassion, Kathleen entrusts the diaries to her, urging her to look at them. There, in the soft glow of the lamp, Rosie reads a heartrending tale of stolen dreams, true love, heartache and loss. A tale that, somehow, must have a happy ending... What readers are saying about Miss You Forever: 'Loved this book. The characters are really likeable and a connection is made with them... It's really well written with lots of twists and turns. Well worth reading' 'It's one of these books which, once you start, you can't put down. Great story. Was in tears at the end, but it was tears of joy. I haven't enjoyed a book so much in years. I can highly recommend it' 'Quite easily one of the best books I have ever read'

Linger on the hill of Calvary. Rub a finger on the timber and press the nail into your hand. Taste the tinge of cheap wine and feel the scrape of a thorn on your brow. Touch the velvet dirt, moist with the blood of God. Allow the tools of torture to tell their story. Listen as they tell you what God did to win your heart.
