Increasingly, Western culture embraces confusion as a virtue and decries certainty as a sin. Those who are confused about sexuality and identity are viewed as heroes. Those who are confused about morality are progressive pioneers. Those who are confused about spirituality are praised as tolerant. Conversely, those who express certainty about such issues are seen as bigoted, oppressive, arrogant, or intolerant. In eight lessons coordinated to be used alongside the Saving Truth Video Study, Abdu Murray seeks to awaken Westerners to the plight we find ourselves in, challenges Christians to consider how they have played a part in fostering a culture of confusion, and provides arguments from a Christian perspective for the foundations of truth applied to sexuality, identity, morality, and spirituality. Ultimately, the Saving Truth Study Guide will equip readers to engage the culture of confusion with the clarity that Christ offers.

“Can someone please help me understand the craziness engulfing our family?” Daily this question screamed through Jemimah’s confused and anxious mind. Chaos ruled as in angst she watched the man she had married rotate his “Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde” personalities, leaving her feeling trapped and fearful. Jemimah Black takes us on an insightful journey from the exciting beginnings of her new dating relationship, into the gradual uncovering of the shocking truth that she had married an emotionally and psychologically abusive man. She seeks answers to her questions, “How did I get myself into this? Was I so ‘in love’ that I failed to see the signs? If this is now my reality, what is my response to be? Am I required to be silent and endure? Is there a time to stand up and speak up, even if it means losing everything I treasure?” If you are curious and brave enough to venture inside the home of a family experiencing abuse, this book swings the front doors wide open and invites you in. As you enter, you will be surprised and amazed at how, without a single physical blow, one person can hold an entire family hostage. You will not be able to read this book without being deeply challenged. It is an essential tool that sheds light on the dynamics of abuse and will make you question everything you think you know about family violence. Reading this book will not only change you, it might even help you save a life.

Sacred Sacrifice

"Sacred Sacrifice" examines how analogous mythological ideas and the experience of sacred presence during the ritual act created similar ritual paradigms in two non-contiguous cultures. Vedic fire sacrifice, the Horse sacrifice in ancient India and the sacrificial development of the Christian Eucharist serve as examples. This book takes to task theories on sacrifice and ritual that emphasize the psycho-social and functionalist interpretation to the exclusion of the religious. The relationship between myth and ritual, and conscious and unconscious human behavior emerges from this analysis of universal religious structures.

Truth and the Comedic Art

Traditional philosophy places a singular emphasis on tragedy, acting under the assumption that tragedy is more profound than comedy. Gelven argues that comedy deserves equal if not greater attention from philosophy. Through the interpretative readings and concrete analysis of three classical works, Gelven shows that comedy provides an access to truth unavailable by any other means. Silvius in Shakespeares's As You Like It, Cherubino in Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro, and Lord Goring in Wilde's An Ideal Husband are examined in terms of why and how they are comic, along with how and why they are seen both as fools and yet as graced. Gelven finds that in revealing the spirit of graced folly, comedy teaches us about our own essence, the fundamental nature of our finitude. This will undoubtedly be of considerable importance not only to philosophical aestheticians or literary critics, but also for those seeking to understand the nature of truth itself.

"Examining television drama from a semiotic viewpoint, this study explains the need to develop semiotic theory further in order to acknowledge all the sign systems that practitioners have exploited in successful television drama. A selection of major television dramas are examined from a theoretical perspective, linking formalism and realism. These dramas include ER, NYPD Blue, The Tribe, The Politicians Wife, Big Women, Wilderness, Inspector Morse, Cracker, Fitz, and The X-Files."
