Adeline Virginia Woolf (1882–1941) was an English writer. She is widely hailed as being among the most influential modernist authors of the 20th century and a pioneer of stream of consciousness narration. Woolf was a central figure in the feminist criticism movement of the 1970s, her works having inspired countless women to take up the cause. She suffered numerous nervous breakdowns during her life primarily as a result of the deaths of family members, and it is now believed that she may have suffered from bipolar disorder. In 1941, Woolf drowned herself in the River Ouse at Lewes, aged 59. This volume contains 23 exceptional short stories that will not disappoint those who have read and enjoyed other works by this seminal writer. This carefully edited collection of "THE COMPLETE SHORT STORIES OF NATHANIEL HAWTHORNE (Illustrated)” has been designed and formatted to the highest digital standards and adjusted for readability on all devices. Excerpts: "I am afraid this ghost story will bear a very faded aspect when transferred to paper. Whatever effect it had on you, or whatever charm it retains in your memory, is, perhaps, to be attributed to the favorable circumstances under which it was originally told.” (The Ghost of Doctor Harris) American novelist and short story writer Nathaniel Hawthorne (1804-1864) published his first work, a novel titled Fanshawe, in 1828; he later tried to suppress it, feeling it was not equal to the standard of his later work. He published several short stories in various periodicals, which he collected in 1837 as Twice-Told Tales. Much of Hawthorne's writing centres on New England, many works featuring moral allegories with a Puritan inspiration. His fiction works are considered to be part of the Romantic movement and, more specifically, Dark romanticism. His themes often centre on the inherent evil and sin of humanity, and his works often have moral messages and deep psychological complexity. Table of Contents: Biography of Nathaniel Hawthorne Collections of Short Stories: Twice-Told Tales (1837) Grandfather's Chair (1840) Biographical Stories Mosses from an Old Manse (1846) Wonder Book For Girls and Boys (1851) The Snow Image and Other Twice Told Tales (1852) Tanglewood Tales For Girls and Boys (1853) The Dolliver Romance and Other Pieces, Tales and Sketches (1864) The Story Teller Sketches in Magazines

My name is Archie Matthews I and my family have a long history of telling tales around the fire at family gatherings. I’ve grown up listening to thousands of tales, handed down from generation to generation. Once in a while a family member might experience a new adventure that would then result in a new tale being shaped and shared with family and friends. Many of my tales are humorous adventures, full of life’s twists and turns. Some delve into the depths of human emotion. Most are factually true, while others may be slightly embellished with an angle or two to add a bit of intrigue. I am not a bold liar, crook, nor thief, but as with storytellers of old, it can be a bit of a challenge to separate the fact from the fiction. That part I will always leave up to you, the reader. I promise to never cheat you with a boring tale, nor steal your valuable time with vulgarity or gossip. I guarantee at the very least a smile, while striving for the ultimate belly laugh.

« I also know of something strange, so strange that it has haunted me all my life. It is now fifty-six years since the incident occurred, and yet not a month passes that I do not see it again in a dream, so great is the impression of fear it has left on my mind. For ten minutes I experienced such horrible fright that ever since then a sort of constant terror has remained with me. Sudden noises startle me violently, and objects imperfectly distinguished at night inspire me with a mad desire to flee from them. In short, I am afraid of the dark! » – (Guy de Maupassant)
