In high summer meadows, nestled in the moors, near old castles, or behind the kitchen stove--these are the places where the Little People may be found. Make the acquaintance of White Ladies and Red Caps, Church Grims and Hobgoblins, English Fairies, Leprechauns, Sirens, Hey-Hey Men, and all of their strange and mythical kin. Become wise in the ways of these magical creatures, some beautiful and benevolent, others cunning, menacing, or morose. For many years, this field guide has been as elusive as a Will-o'-the-Wisp. This is the first opportunity for fans to once again own an English-language edition of one of the most revered introductions to elf folk ever written. Featuring more than 80 new illustrations "Rationalists, materialists, be forewarned: the ancient forces governing earthly incident and momentum lie neither in our heads nor our economics, but, rather, in the revelations from A Field Guide to the Little People." --The New York Times

Superstars. We adore them. We applaud their triumphs and agonize with them over their defeats. They command unimaginable salaries. And, like our memories, their moments of glory shine brilliantly and then fade with the passing of time. God's Word has no superstars. Sure, some like Abraham, David and Paul receive a lot of attention. They play very public roles. But they command no higher recognition from God then the innumerable "little people" found throughout Scripture. This book is about people like you and me, whose names may not be memorable. People whose ministries can be summed up in only a few verses. People whose impact will last for eternity. Join Woodrow Kroll as he introduces you to such little-known characters as Ebed-Melech, Jashobeam and Eunice. and to reap the rich blessings found in their lives -- the lives of little people like you and me. - Back cover.

In Cornish folklore, the “little people” are one of a complex tribe of elves, pixies and fairies. Their world is invisible to the human eye; some folks say that young women are chosen to go and live in their world to look after the babies. But what happens to these women when they return? On a weekend home, a daughter accidentally discovers the invisible world, made visible, that her mother’s loneliness may be misleading, and that long-forgotten rumors about her mother’s relationship with the little people are more real than she had ever credited.

Big Trifles and Little People is a remarkable collection of reminiscences about a fascinating time in Russia—a time of Tsar Nicolas II, head of the great Romanov family, and of the Bolshevik revolution. But it was the view of the author that “little people, trifles and personal memories have the right to be heard, just as the feats of the great.” With that in mind, he unfolds a narrative of joy, terror and ultimately, of his triumph of will over the forces which drove him from the homeland of his noble forefathers. The description of the fancy dress balls at Elizabethgrad Cavalry College, where he trained to become an officer with the Cossack Cavalry, is lilting and full of color. The surprisingly luxurious life of the Russian officers in the wilds of China is unfolded in wonderful detail. The description of the instant he was shot and crippled for life in the Russo-Japanese war is gripping and unforgettable. The book focuses on encounters with the “little” people such as Shick, the Jewish scribe; Kaloev, the Muslim tea salesman; Zhao, proprietor of the Fudzian stock market; and Kate, an American prostitute. However, encounters with the “great” people are not ignored. These include personal meetings with the Empress Dowager of China, with Tsar Nicolas II and even with Rasputin. Big Trifles and Little People provides a rare opportunity to experience the “real” Russia of the early twentieth century as recalled by an astute observer of the times.

Over the past 15 years, geography has made many significant contributions to our understanding of disabled people's identities, lives, and place in society and space. 'Towards Enabling Geographies' brings together leading scholars to showcase the 'second wave' of geographical studies concerned with disability and embodied differences. This area has broadened and challenged conventional boundaries of 'disability', expanding the kinds of embodied differences considered, while continuing to grapple with important challenges such as policy relevance and the use of more inclusionary research approaches. This book demonstrates the value of a spatial conceptualization of disability and disablement to a broader social science audience, whilst examining how this conceptualization can be further developed and refined.

The Little People were a happy and peaceful clan who lived in the crater of a wonderful volcano. There, they were surrounded by their favorite smellssweet sulfur, in particularand were always warm and comfortable. It was safe there, too, because the predators stayed away, which was very important for the Little People, each of them no more than twelve inches tall. Then, one terrible day, things begin to go wrong. The hiss of steam in their happy home comes less and less. The sweet sulfur fades, growing weaker by the day. Their volcano is dying; soon, it will no longer be a safe, warm, comfortable place to call home. The Little People are forced to flee, and they find themselves in a Maine mill town, lost and afraid. How will they survive? Who will come to their aid in this strange, new land? Luckily, two curious kids, Timothy and Xandre, discover the Little People and befriend the strange clan. With the help of their new friendsplus a helpful grandma and a friendly dogthe Little People might be safe after all, despite the absence of sulfur and heat. At a chaotic town meeting, the fates of the Little People will be ultimately decided.
