While focusing on children's individual strengths, which include their interests, intelligences, and unique styles of learning, this resource demonstrates teaching strategies that address multiple areas of development. Using scenarios from their own practice, The authors examine the process of accessing children's strengths to facilitate social, emotional, cognitive, and motor development, including concepts and skills. The authors provide tools to determine, organize, and plan with children's strengths and demonstrate the use of documentation as an authentic assessment of children's skills and goals. Teachers will use this book to create learning environments that enrich learning for all children.

Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Sample Book Insights: #1 Humans are not physically normal in the absence of hard physical effort. Exercise is not a thing we do to fix a problem, but a thing we must do anyway. It is the thing we must do to replicate the conditions under which our bodies are adapted, the conditions under which we are physically normal. #2 The first piece of equipment developed to assist with resistance training was the barbell, which is a metal shaft with some sort of weight on each end. The earliest barbells used spheres or globes for weight, which could be adjusted for balance and load by filling them with sand or shot. #3 The same principle applies to exercise machines as it does to gravity: if you train your body in ways that it doesn’t use, you won’t get any benefit from it. The human body functions as a system, and it gains strength in a manner that is similar to how it uses that strength. #4 Barbells and their exercises are far superior to any other training tools that have ever existed. They allow weight to be moved in the way the body was designed to move it, and every aspect of the movement is controlled by the trainee.

Using strength training as a fitness regime you're able to use resistance in order to not only make the skeletal muscles within your body stronger, but it also helps to increase their size and anaerobic endurance. When it comes to strength training there are many different types you can undertake. In this book "Strength Training For Beginners" I will explain in more detail about not only the benefits of strength training, but also how to get your training started. However before we look at these areas of I'm going to explain a little bit about where it originates. Up until the 20th Century, you'll find the history of strength training is very similar to that of weight training. However with the arrival of certain technologies, materials and knowledge that's come to light since the 20th Century the methods we now use as part of our strength-training regime have grown somewhat. In fact, if you were to look back at what has been written over the century's regarding strength training, it was something the Ancient Greeks were already doing. Certainly when you look at some of the pictures that appear on ancient Greek cups and plates you'll see images of men carrying things such as large animals on their back or lifting what seems to be a set of weights.

Positive psychology is the scientific study of what goes right in life, from birth to death and at all stops in between. It is a newly-christened approach within psychology that takes seriously the examination of that which makes life most worth living. Everyone's life has peaks and valleys, and positive psychology does not deny the valleys. Its signature premise is more nuanced, but nonetheless important: what is good about life is as genuine as what is bad and, therefore, deserves equal attention from psychologists. Positive psychology as an explicit perspective has existed only since 1998, but enough relevant theory and research now exist to fill a textbook suitable for a semester-long college course.A Primer in Positive Psychology is thoroughly grounded in scientific research and covers major topics of concern to the field: positive experiences such as pleasure and flow; positive traits such as character strengths, values, and talents; and the social institutions that enable these subjects as well as what recent research might contribute to this knowledge. Every chapter contains exercises that illustrate positive psychology, a glossary, suggestions of articles and books for further reading, and lists of films, websites, and popular songs that embody chapter themes.A comprehensive overview of positive psychology by one of the acknowledged leaders in the field, this textbook provides students with a thorough introduction to an important area of psychology.

Now in its second edition, Teaching and Learning through Reflective Practice is a practical guide to enable all those involved in educational activities to learn through the practices of reflection. The book highlights the power that those responsible for teaching and learning have to appraise, understand and positively transform their teaching. Seeing the teacher as a reflective learner, the book emphasises a strengths-based approach in which positivity, resilience, optimism and high performance can help invigorate teaching, enhance learning and allow the teacher to reach their full potential. This approach busts the myth that reflection on problems and deficits is the only way to better performance. The approach of this new edition is an ‘appreciative’ one. At its heart is the exploration and illustration of four reflective questions: What’s working well? What needs changing? What are we learning? Where do we go from here? With examples drawn from UK primary teacher education, the book reveals how appreciative reflective conversations can be initiated and sustained. It also sets out a range of practical processes for amplifying success. This book will be a must have for undergraduate and PGCE students on initial teacher training programmes. It will also interest practising teachers, teacher educators and those on continuing professional development courses.
