This book looks at the history and future of the UK State Pension. It explores the affordability of this benefit, and challenges the idea that the State Pension Age should be the main tool for controlling costs. Instead, it examines the concept of means-testing, showing how the State Pension can be made more affordable whilst remaining equitable.

To Danny, Joel (fearless of sharks) and Steve of Daytona Beach, and Raul of Long Beach, surfing is first and foremost. The surfers lives unfold in adventure as well as misadventure and romance. Surfer girls follow the young surfers from beach to beach. Some of them find marriage relationships along the way. These surfers' adventures involve Captain Mac's boat and Raul's airplane as well as surfing. The surfers experience driving through hurricanes after the police are gone from the highways, plane crashes, title waves and boat wrecks and surfing in the wake of storms. They chase the storm's wake to surf the killer surf. They surf around the world and the story climaxes in Palm Beach after Hurricane Floyd moves off the South Florida Coast.

If you are looking for the perfect employee, Nadine Vogel urges you to consider people with disabilities, parents of children with special needs, and older workersthe people she includes in the special needs workforce. In her opening chapter, Vogel cites these facts: * People with disabilities are more likely to stay with an employer than their non-disabled counterparts. Older workers also have reduced turnover rates. * People with disabilities consistently meet or exceed job performance and productivity expectations. * People with disabilities have a well-deserved reputation (backed up by research) for innovation. Accustomed to adapting to a variety of situations, they are often quick to troubleshoot, formulate new ideas, and adopt cutting-edge solutions. * Absentee rates are lower for people with disabilities and for older workers, compared with "typical employees." With the beginning of the retirement years for baby boomers and smaller cohorts following them, the available labor pool in the United States is diminishing. But even if the current economic situation means that more people stay in their jobs longer, Vogel points out that older workers are often dealing with some sort of disability and may need some extra support from their employers. In this readable book, Vogel takes you through what you need to know to make the most of this creative workforce and includes a directory of resources as well as interviews with executives from today's leading corporations showing best practices in the critical areas of dealing with disability in the workplace.

Poetic Inquiry: Vibrant Voices in the Social Sciences, co-edited by Monica Prendergast, Carl Leggo and Pauline Sameshima, features many of the foremost scholars working worldwide in aesthetic ways through poetry. The contributors (from five countries) are all committed to the use of poetry as a way to collect data, analyze findings and represent understandings in multidisciplinary social science qualitative research investigations. The creativity and high aesthetic quality of the contributions found in the collection speak for themselves; they are truly, as the title indicates, "vibrant voices." This groundbreaking collection will mark new territories in qualitative research and interpretive inquiry practices at an international level. Poetic Inquiry will contribute to many ongoing and energetic debates in arts-based research regarding issues of evaluation, aesthetics, ethics, activism, self-study, and practice-based research, while also spelling out some innovative ways of opening up these debates in creative and productive ways. Instructors and students will find the book a clear and comprehensive introduction to poetic inquiry as a research method.
