The Fate of a Flapper, the second mystery in this captivating new series, takes readers into the dark, dangerous, and glittering underworld of a 1920's Chicago speakeasy. A 2019 Agatha Award Nominee for "Best Historical Mystery"! After nine months as a cigarette girl at the Third Door, one of Chicago’s premier moonshine parlors, Gina Ricci feels like she's finally getting into the swing of things. The year is 1929, the Chicago Cubs are almost in the World Series, neighborhood gangs are all-powerful, and though Prohibition is the law of the land, the Third Door can't serve the cocktails fast enough. Two women in particular are throwing drinks back with abandon while chatting up a couple of bankers, and Gina can't help but notice the levels of inebriation and the tension at their table. When the group stumbles out in the early morning, she tries to put them out of her head. But once at home that night, Gina's sleep is interrupted when her cousin Nancy, a police officer, calls—she's found a body. Gina hurries over to photograph the crime scene, but stops short when she recognizes the body: it’s one of the women from the night before. Could the Third Door have served the woman bad liquor? Or, Gina wonders, could this be murder? As the gangs and bombings draw ever closer, all of Chicago starts to feel like a warzone, and Gina is determined to find out if this death was an unlucky accident, or a casualty of combat.

I’ve known what it’s like to be at the top of the world looking down. I had the girl, the band, fans, and a deal on the table. It was the opportunity of a lifetime, and not many get to experience it. I knew what I wanted and was unstoppable. No one was going to stand in our way. She supported me. She had an undying love for our music. And I was all in. Being a tattoo artist was just a paid hobby I was more than happy to lay down. We were going to make it—all of us. I could already feel the heat from the stage lights, see the sold-out venue with hands in the air as the crowd chanted our name and sang our lyrics. I could imagine our songs playing on the radio. Music videos, success, fame, Grammys—I wanted it all. We were chasing a dream. Billboard was my target. And we were days away from claiming a tour bus. Then she died. A musician without a muse is nothing. She was mine. I wanted none of it anymore. No friends, family, nothing. I just wanted her. Drugs became my lifeline. Didn’t matter the kind. It all served a purpose. An effort to make me forget what I’d done. My desire for music laid six-feet under just like her. And as much as I wanted to die, God wouldn’t let me. Living was a greater punishment. When I was as low as I could go, the stars aligned, and suddenly I was around people I couldn’t escape, being forced to face things I never had. Fresh out of rehab and halfway across the country and I laid eyes on her—hot, younger, and an itch I was going to scratch. Only it wasn’t. She changed everything. Things I didn’t want changed. She stirs emotions I’d laid to rest. She sparks behavior in me that’s never existed. She surfaces a form of desire I’ve never known. Her immaturity leaves me raging mad. Her tantrums make me crazy. And the jealousy over her I can’t handle. Yet I can’t leave her alone. And when the supernatural has a hand in matchmaking, the only thing left . . . is recovery. Note from the author: It is imperative to read "Fated for You and Fated for Me" prior to reading Fate by Forgiveness, as Riggan and Sayler's story starts there.

Now in its third edition, Kelly Shaver's Principles of Social Psychology has won praise from students and instructors alike for its challenging "no nonsense" approach to the field. Thoroughly updated to reflect current research, the text retains the qualities that have become its hallmarks: a cognitive approach to the process of socialization, and an emphasis on the ideas that give the discipline continuity. It offers undergraduate psychology students clear, conceptually integrated discussions of all of the major topics in social psychology. Shaver's focus on the concepts of social psychology provides a framework for students to develop their own applications. The principles of social behavior are presented in the text in the same way they develop in the individual moving from internal processes (social perception, self-recognition) to external issues (the environment, the law) that influence behavior. Shaver weaves contemporary issues into his treatment of basic theories, using examples from everyday situations. His supple writing engages students in the complexity of social behavior, and is one reason Principles of Social Psychology remains one of the most highly regarded texts in the field.

Akhenaten One of the Many Books of Hermes

The Pilgrimage The first section of the story of Akhenaten is told by Ambrose, the soul self of Akhenaten/Smenkhkare. He begins by speaking of the distant beginnings of Earths evolvement and that of all earlier species and the divine orchestration behind all of Earths evolvement and adorning. Thereafter he speaks of Amilius Hermes and the Great Division that was brought about the creative experimentation indulged in by a certain group of Divine Brethren (not of the angelic realm). From there he speaks of the pilgrimages that were required in divine reparation and healing, that which brought about the Hermetic vibration. He goes on to speak of the returning pilgrimages by the incarnate visitations of the extra-terrestrially evolved Hermetic vibration as well as those who eventually incarnated solely upon Earth. Soon he comes to speaking briefly of his overlapping dual incarnations as the ancient Egyptian pharaoh Akhenaten and his brother Prince Smenkhkare and their souls close connection with Amilius Hermes and the Hermetic vibration. And so he finishes by summing up his own soul selfs spiritual lineage and a brief address to the reader of his story. Meritaten It is Meritaten who tells the second section of the story and therein she gives her account of her father Akhenaten and his life. She tells us of her father and includes details of her own life and that of her beloved sisters and soon informs us that when she was born she already had two older sisters. She also speaks of her mother Nefertiti and even twice briefly mentions her beloved grandmother Tiy and grandfather Amenophis III. Of course she in due time speaks adoringly of the two loves of her life, her husband Prince Smenkhkare (and later the Pharaoh Smenkhkare) and her son Tutankhaten (Tutankhamun). Near the beginning of her story she informs us that she and her sisters were all taught not only to write detailed stories but also to perform them. Meritaten is a consummate story teller with a great sense of place and a sometimes poetic turn of phrase. Her account expresses the whole range of their human experience amid the fine detail of their physical surroundings. She ranges from poignant and touching, often amusing and right through to her own personal traumatic emotional pain and thereafter to the gradual tragedy all of their lives eventually became. (Keep in mind that Meritaten and Tutankhaten were the dual soul aspects of Ambroses twin self Ursu). Tutankhaten And now it is (Tutankhamun) who takes up the telling of the third and final part of the story of Akhenaten, speaking from the position he assumed when having incarnated as Akhenatens only son. He speaks openly about the fact that thereafter Akhenaten and Smenkhkares deaths he was soon forcibly renamed Tutankhamun when crowned. Even from the very beginning of his account he decidedly states that his true name was and is Tutankhaten. While sharing his memories of his father, he also tells very well the story of his own short lifetime and that of his adored mother Meritaten and Smenkhkare whom he fondly called his second-father. His amiable half-sisters he speaks of also, and later of his grandmother Nefertiti and her brother the universally despised Ay. The latter being his greatest oppressor. And last but certainly far from least, we are privy to a most fervently detailed account of the unenviable relationship between himself and his beloved half-sister and queen Ankhesenapaaten (who was also forcibly renamed Ankhesenamun). And that they had been compelled to marry under such duress he also refers to their life as captives of state, those living within a luxuriously appointed prison. Like his mother Meritaten he later recounts his experiences after passing over into Spirit, although his personal experiences were quite different from hers in that they contain strong elements of both the dark and the light. From Jane Green, the New York Times bestselling author of such beloved novels as Jemima J, The Beach House, Another Piece of My Heart, comes an enthralling and emotional story about how much we really understand the temptations that can threaten even the most idyllic of relationships.... Gabby and Elliott have been happily married for eighteen years. They have two teenaged daughters. They have built a life together. Forty-three year old Gabby is the last person to have an affair. She can't relate to the way her friends desperately try to cling to the beauty and allure of their younger years...And yet, she too knows her youth is quickly slipping away. She could never imagine how good it would feel to have a handsome younger man show interest in her—until the night it happens. Matt makes Gabby feel sparkling, fascinating, alive—something she hasn't felt in years. What begins as a long-distance friendship soon develops into an emotional affair as Gabby discovers her limits and boundaries are not where she expects them to be. Intoxicated, Gabby has no choice but to step ever deeper into the allure of attraction and attention, never foreseeing the life-changing consequences that lie ahead. If she makes one wrong move she could lose everything—and find out what really matters most. A heartfelt and complex story, Tempting Fate will have readers gripped until they reach the very last page, and thinking about the characters long after they put the book down.
