The gnomes and dwarves were related in ages past. Their ancestors were said to have shared the blood of both mortals and angels. They may live for hundreds of years and each race has developed special abilities and characteristics. War broke out it is said over a great gem that once belonged to King Arthur. Stories say that when Camelot fell the angel Safriel recovered the gem, but before he was able to bury it under the stones that men call "Henge," he fell in love with a mortal woman. Their two sons became the first gnome and the first dwarf. The dwarves are slightly taller standing around four feet in height, while the gnomes are shorter at around three feet. The dwarves are stronger, hardier and the greater craftsmen, while the gnomes are agile and can turn invisible. The gnomes lust for gold and are playful, and michevious tricksters. The sons of Safriel had children in Britain, Hawaii and Alaska before dying at the age of five hundred years. Their bloodline is the orign for the dwarves, leprechauns, menehune and Enukins. Join Angelica and Jonah who also share angelic blood, but not from the angel Safriel in a quest to locate the Gnomes of Nome and recover the lost staff of Moses and Solomon's magic ring.

SAFRIEL'S BANELong ago and far away,A lonely angel lost his waySent from heaven on a mission he came,Sent by Gabriel to Camelot's flamesTo find and bury King Arthur's gem,Under the stones that men call hengeOne day he met a lady fair,And became enamored by her auburn hairA touch a kiss he broke his vow,For to love a mortal is not allowedIn her eyes he found true love,But forbidden it was from up aboveTwo sons to him she one day bore,In secret vale on Ireland's shoresFor his sin an Archangel came,To take him to prison head bowed in shameWithout angelic father his sons grew no more,Their children's children waved from shoreAs half-angel sons sailed far away,To paradise where the Menehune playFor a time they found love once moreOn the beaches of Hawaii's shoresOn Maui were buried side by side,Their second wives while children criedThey took the gem and sailed far away,At first all was calm upon gentle wavesThe sun was warm, their spirits high,Their sorrow faded where gulls flyThe gem can find the sons of mornThe eleven seek the one forlornThen Satan came and winds did blow,The ship was tossed to and froUpon sharp rocks the timbers did break,Cold water rushed in, their bodies did shakeAll seemed lost, they began to pray,They held the gem towards the end of dayRed light shot down to an ancient one,Now awoke the fourth born sonUp from the deep from beneath the sea,A Son of the Morning their plight did seeHe bore them up upon a wave,He showed them mercy, their lives he savedNow was battle like none before,Two Sons of Morning on distant shoresMountains rose and islands fellFor mighty is the King of HellThe dragon of the oceans fought fiercely,But Leviathan fled from the Lord of the SeaAmongst the Inuit where polar bears runBrother's found love in the midnight sunEven in mortals with angel's blood,They one day grow old since the Great FloodWar broke out amongst their kin,Over who would take their father's great gem

When moviegoers accompany Dorothy through the gates of the Emerald City, they may think they have discovered all there is to see of Oz—but as real friends of the Wizard know, more lies behind the curtain. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, on which the 1939 film was based, was only the first of 14 Oz books. Together these works constitute a series rich in allusions to a broad range of literary traditions, including fairy tale, myth, epic, the picaresque novel, and visions of utopia. Reflecting on L. Frank Baum’s entire series of full-length Oz books, this study introduces readers to the great folklorist who created not only Dorothy and friends, but countless wonderful characters who still await discovery. Close analysis of each book invites readers to search Baum’s fascinating stories for meaning and mythical quality. Progressing chronologically through the canon, the author discusses literary devices and important thematic implications in each book, arguing that Baum wrote for the pleasure of both children and adults, both to provide entertainment and to teach moral lessons. Of particular significance is the argument, sustained over several chapters, that Baum modeled his Oz books on classic mythical patterns, rewriting Oz history in nearly every book to produce a different set of backgrounds and a different conception of utopia for his imaginary kingdom. This variety of backgrounds and archetypes gives Baum’s books a truly universal appeal. Examinations of his non-Oz books and his other Oz works, such as Little Wizard Stories of Oz and The Woggle-Bug Book, illuminate the discussion of the Oz novels.

The story characters are Sheer Luck, a hapless but serendipitous squirrel; he is our adventure guide along with his friend, the wise owl, WHOO. WHOO is an owl with hidden magical powers that are revealed only as the trek progresses and only when necessary. Sheer Luck is on a "myth buster" mission to discover if there are real Gnomes or if they exist only as myth, or if they ever existed. WHOO keeps Sheer Luck from trouble and on the right track throughout the search. The pair are joined by various other "friends " that give clues and try to help with the discovery mission. Sheer Luck tries to figure out how best to go about searching for Gnomes when he doesn't know if they even exist, what they might look like, and how to even begin a serious search to locate them. His search begins with a strange dream, instigated unbeknown to him by his friend, the wise owl, WHOO. The dream has clues to the adventure he is about to undertake. There is a Gnome playing on a fiddle in his lap while sitting up in a tree; a fog on the moon; and a frog that should be in a lagoon. Several strange and creepy critters appear in Sheer Luck's dream. Deciding how to progress is the focus of this poem story. When Sheer Luck awakens from his weird dreamy encounter with strangeness he is ready to continue the "myth buster" mission.Interwoven into the story is the importance of alphabets, spelling and grammar, reading, writing and dreaming of good things to happen to you as you fall into slumber. The story is written in easy flowing, rhyming free verses. The poetry style lends itself to the fantasy of the story.
