In this detailed study outline of the book, the author connects the message of the book to its Old Testament roots and reclaims it for contemporary Christians struggling to live out their faith in what seems to be an increasingly hostile world. The author presents the images of Revelation as a "divine picture book" not to be debated, or to serve as a detailed calendar of end-time events but to reassure believers today that the promise of the gospel is still as real, fresh, and powerful as it's ever been.

THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST - REV. 19:1-21 A. GENERAL - 1. Chapter 19 - brings to a close the Great Tribulation period (Daniel’s 70th Week – Dan. 9:27) and ushers in the 2nd coming of Jesus Christ. 2. Christ promised he would come again (John 14:3). 40 days after his resurrection (Acts 1:3), Christ ascended into heaven from the Mount of Olives; just East of Jerusalem (Acts 1:9). Two angels told the apostles Jesus would return in like manner (Acts 1:11). In Rev. 19:11-16, Christ returns with armies of saints and angels. 3. The prophecies of Zechariah will be fulfilled: “Thus says the Lord: I am returned to Zion and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem...” (Zech. 8:3); “And his feet shall stand in that day upon the Mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the East...” (Zech. 14:4). 4. In Chapter 19 - there are actually 2 scenes: 1 in heaven which is one of great joy and 1 on earth which is one of great judgment. B. JOY IN HEAVEN (REV. 19:1-10) – 1. SONGS OF THE SAINTS - REV. 19:1-6) – a. TIME SEQUENCE - (1) After this, I (John) heard - what sounded like the roar of a great multitude in heaven shouting: “Hallelujah - salvation - glory – power – belong to our God for true and just are his judgments – he has condemned the great prostitute (whore, KJV) - who corrupted the earth by her adulteries - he has avenged on her the blood of his servants!” (Rev. 19:1-2). NOTE: “After this” refers to the destruction of the apostate religious system in Rev. 17 and the corrupt commercial system in Rev. 18. In Rev. 18:20 the call to rejoice was issued; now we have the response to that call.

Apart from a few well-known passages, the book of Revelation is a mystery to most Christians. The terrible images that are used are difficult to understand, and the little we do understand seems to present a picture of doom and gloom. However, the book of Revelation was written to comfort the persecuted believers who were facing daily onslaughts by the forces of evil. It has a powerful message for the believers of all ages, including todays believers. If you can get past all the seemingly incomprehensible imagery and unlock the code, you will find that its message is an integral part of the message that we find in the rest of the Bible. In fact, it is like the tip of the spear. Most of the important themes in the Bible as a whole find their fulfillment in the book of Revelation. The purpose of this book is not to give some radical new interpretation of the book of Revelation. It is to remain faithful to the message of the Bible as a whole while opening this wonderful but often misunderstood part of Gods Word for todays believers. This book will help you not only to understand the message of Revelation but also to apply it to your own life. This will help you to persevere through difficulties and persecution until the victory of Christ is fully enforced in all of creation. A study guide is included so that you can also use the book for group Bible study.

What are the signs that the end times are near? Do you find yourself disheartened when you hear the news events of the day? Wars raging across the world. Crisis after crisis occurring in the homeland. Moral decay seemingly celebrated in the media outlets. Just when it seems things can't get any worse . . . they do. These uncertain times cause us to wonder what tomorrow holds and if the end is truly near. Thankfully, God has graciously filled His Word with signs of the future to help us understand His purpose and plans for us. Even so, these signs in Scripture are not always easy for us to understand. It can be difficult for us to see how the prophetic passages and events in the Bible have significance for our lives today. And though countless books have been written on prophecy, they often offer up more questions and confusion than clarity on the subject. In The Book of Signs Study Guide, bestselling author Dr. David Jeremiah examines the prophetic writings from the Old and New Testaments to help you cut through the confusion and give you insights about God's plan for humankind as the end times draw near. In this comprehensive thirty-one lesson volume, you will explore what God's Word says about . . . As you come to understand the truth about these signs, your faith will grow, you will live more confidently, and you will gain a new hope for the future—knowing the time for the return of the Prince of Peace is drawing near. Two of the most dramatic and mysterious books in the Bible, Daniel and Revelation disclose many of their secrets when they're understood as the special kind of writing they are. They both use a particular literary form, known as apocalyptic, to convey their message of warning and encouragement to believers in crisis situations. This study guide equips groups to read and understand this kind of writing and to appreciate the messages of Daniel and Revelation for them today. The Understanding the Books of the Bible series enables groups to take a new approach to studying the Bible together. Instead of following artificial chapter and verse divisions, these Bible study guides lead groups through whole books following their natural outlines, and pose engaging questions for discussion and personal application all along the way.

Participants in Disciple IV Under the Tree of Life will recognize the familiar rhythm and requirements of daily Scripture reading and note taking in preparation for the discussion in the weekly group meeting. The study manual guides daily study of the biblical text and calls for written responses that become grist for discussion in the weekly group meeting. Two new elements in the study manual format represent special emphases in this study – the Psalm of the week and the radical disciple. The Psalm of the week will lead people into a deeper life of prayer using Psalms as a guide. It is to be prayed aloud both daily and weekly in the study group session. Study manual suggestions on experiencing the Psalm of the week pay attention to feelings as well as words. The radical disciple focuses on thoughts or actions relevant to the weekly theme. Whether praying or taking steps toward radical discipleship, participants know they are not alone – the community is there. Each member of the group needs a study manual and a Bible. The Bible is the text for the study and the study manual will guide group members in their study and preparation for the weekly group session. The study manual also includes suggestions for individual research and study-related activities. Space is provided for taking notes while reading Scripture, for recording thoughts and questions arising out of daily study, and for notes during the weekly group session. The titles of the sessions along with theme words and theme verses, and major persons, events, and topics will set the sequence of the biblical story in the minds of the participants. The principal Scripture for each session follows the chronological movement of the biblical story. Disciple IV Under the Tree of Life is the final study in the four-phase DISCIPLE program. The study concentrates on Old Testament Writings, the Gospel of John, the Epistles of John, James, Jude, and finally, Revelation. Emphasis on the Psalms as Israel’s hymnbook and prayer book leads naturally to an emphasis on worship in the study. Present through the entire study is the sense of living toward completion – toward the climax of the message and the promise, extravagantly pictured in Revelation. The image of the tree and the color gold emphasize the prod and promise in the Scriptures. The word under in the title is meant to convey invitation, welcome, sheltering, security, and rest – home at last. Commitment and Time Involved 32-week study Three and one-half to four hours of independent study each week (40 minutes daily for leaders and 30 minutes daily for group members) in preparation for weekly group meetings. Attendance at weekly 2.5 hour meetings.
