When Dr William Harwood wrote a series of letters to a Canadian newspaper, they were responses to a present and local situation. They were not designed to elicit responses that would prove he was living in the redneck anus of the universe, among the same kind of wonderful folks who gave the world the Crusades, the Inquisition, the Thirty Years War, the Salem witch trials, the moral majority, Ayatollah Khomeini, and the Taliban. That was just the way it turned out. To a victim of god addiction, right and wrong are whatever his god's scriptwriter says they are. Are such people insane, stupid, intestinally challenged—or simply untaught? Persons handicapped by unintentional ignorance despite being capable of rational human thought will find the antidote in this collection of letters, journal articles, satire and book reviews. Unteachables will not.

'Australia is alive with the long history of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, our cultures and our stories. My generation of Aboriginal people want young Australians to be taught more about our history and culture than we were. I have met very few Australians who learned anything in school about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Many have told me that if they were taught anything at all, it was incorrect and often racist. In fact, many Australians think that the only 'real' Aboriginal people are those who live in the deserts. This idea is based on two centuries of racist views that were wrong and should have no place in modern Australia.' - Professor Marcia Langton Written by one of Australia's most prominent Indigenous voices, Welcome to Countryis essential reading for every young Australian. The chapters cover prehistory, post-colonial history, language, kinship, knowledge, art, performance, storytelling, Native Title, the Stolen Generations, making a rightful place for First Australians and looking to the future for Indigenous Australia. This book is for the new Australian generations and works towards rectifying the wrongs of this country's past. You will quickly appreciate how lucky we are to be the home of the world's oldest continuing civilisation - which is both diverse and thriving in Australia today. Detailed teachers' notes that explain how to apply the book to a range of subjects for Years 7 through 10 students can be downloaded online through the Hardie Grant website. Youth policy in Moldova, is the latest in the Council of Europe series of youth policy reviews. As Moldova is the 16th country to be reviewed since 1997, this report has been enriched by the experience gained from the previous reviews of countries in western and eastern Europe and one in the Commonwealth of independent States (Armenia). These reviews have nurtured the development of an informed way of thinking about youth policy and strategies for implementation. The report is based on a cross-sectoral understanding of youth policy, it focuses on youth policy structures, education (formal and especially non-formal), transition to the labour market and entrepreneurship. There are overviews of policy related to social security (health and social protection, childcare), juvenile justice and sport. Particular attention has been paid to questions such as migration, urbanrural divisions and the Transnistria issue. There is also a chapter dedicated to cross-cutting issues, including y
