This vintage book contains a comprehensive guide to the problems of geometry and measurement encountered by sheet metal workers. It comprises a series of examples that show the working out of the circumferences, areas, and capacities for various shapes-an exercise that is intended to enable the student to deal with any ordinary problem that may arise in the workshop. Contents include: "Length of Material Required for a Round Pipe", "Amount of Material for a Square Pipe", "Length of Perimeter of a Hexagon", "Square and Circular Sections of Pipe of given Dimensions", "Length of Side of a Square to be Enclosed by a Given Circle", "Length of Arc when Angle and Radius are Known", "Amount of Material for an Ellipse when Length and Width are Given", et cetera. Many vintage books such as this are increasingly scarce and expensive. We are republishing this volume now in an affordable, modern edition complete with a specially commissioned new introduction on metal work. This book was first published in 1913.

We grow up thinking there are five senses, but we forget about the ten neglected senses of the body that both enable and limit our experience. Embodied explores the psychology of physical sensation in ten chapters: balance, movement, pressure (acting in gravity), breathing, fatigue, pain, itch, temperature, appetite, and expulsion (the senses of physical matter leaving the body). For each sense, two people are interviewed who live with extreme experiences of the sense being investigated; their stories bring to life how far physical sensations matter to us and how much they define what is possible in our life. How physical sensation shapes behavior and how behavior is shaped by sensation are examined. A final chapter presents a theory of what is common across the ten senses: of how we deal with being urged to act, and what happens when extreme sensation is inescapable.
