The best surprises are the ones you never see coming. All Sydney Pearce needs is a change—something to end the stress and chaos of running her grandmother’s old restaurant. Maybe then her life will finally start. When she receives a job offer to serve as chef at a castle resort in Scotland, she gets her wish and happily leaves the restaurant to begin a new chapter in her life. However, she quickly discovers that living at Cagair Castle comes with its complications. Not only must she learn to accept the shocking truth of the magic that resides within the castle walls, but she is also faced with mounting feelings for a man born hundreds of years in the past—a man so alluring and kind that despite her better judgment, she finds herself falling for him more each day. A Readable Yoga takes us on an inspiring tour orchestrated by the custodians of the ancient Vedic tradition of India. Unique in its perspective, this work explains yoga from the deeply faceted culture of a timeless yet living tradition. The Yoga Sutras of Maharishi Patanjali represent a series of aphorisms alluding to the profound quiescence of meditation, which then through practice, leads to three sequential and distinctive stages of enlightenment. Here is a worldview that reaches beyond belief or faith. With scientific and historical evidence, the author strategically illustrates the reality of altered and advanced states of consciousness, miraculous human abilities, and the presence of humans on this planet dating back beyond unimaginable spans of time. But A Readable Yoga is not about philosophy or history. This work is about consciousness-the transparent background of the mind that colors and informs our thoughts, our understanding, and our ability to appreciate the deepest joy of life. Each paradigm of advanced consciousness described in the Yoga Sutras is illustrated with the poetry of saints and spiritual luminaries from recent centuries. From widely diverse traditions and spiritual backgrounds, from all over the world, we hear the story of people who have entered into these same distinctive levels of enlightenment originally codified in this seminal work on yoga. But primarily, A Readable Yoga speaks very personally to anyone practicing or aspiring to live the life of yoga in our modern world. Each aphorism, though often directed to the Yogi of advanced experience, offers wisdom, inspiration and insight to anyone who listens with a quiet heart.

The 1960s inspired the visionary, awakened the dreams of youth, and excited the imagination of a world that recently had emerged from phantom atomic shelters. With the renewal of the search for the milennium, however, there came no abatement in the fears that had first been generated when impotent men unleashed atomic power. Cynics continued to parade their doubts while fatalists popularized their despair. The events of the past decade revealed that Americans hold a diversity of values and convictions. While the deeds generated by their differences unveiled appalling injustice and numberless violations of our sacred democratic charter, they also served to illustrate to a doubting world that many Americans continued to cherish a belief in liberty, a hope in equality, and a dream of fraternity. The conflicts, however, also revealed that the centripetal forces of national institutions, especially the public schools, had not succeeded in removing the ideological differences among the citizens of the United States. With the advent of the seventies, America began a long overdue examination of itself. Many questions remain concerning the future direction of the United States, and they must be answered, for the direction we take will be largely determined by our willingness to look courageously at ourselves. This text is written to assist the teacher, the future teacher, and the concerned layman in analyzing the ideological fabric called Americanism. It is designed to provide an overview of American ideological emphases and their educational implications. If individuals who read this book increase their awareness of the fact that some conflicts among human beings result from sincere ideological differences, we will have achieved our goal. Disagreement between and among individuals need not imply malevolence, ignorance, or dishonesty. Lack of consensus is not less noble than agreement. This book offers a way (not the way) of viewing differences and similarities in the ideological fabric labeled Americanism. It should serve the teacher as the beginning of his or her exploration into the mysterious world of ideology and education. - Introduction.

This is not your common guide to Kriya Yoga. It is something you've never seen before. This is for those who are sick of the secretiveness of Kriya Yoga and all the taboos. They just want the end of misery and are sick of this human-ego-game played by most Kriya Gurus and Kriya organizations. This is not a publication with clich yoga theory and no practice instructions. It gives very powerful direct teachings and actual instructions. These themes will be addressed: Current Kriya Yoga Masters and organizations will be exposed without any biased filter; The often misunderstood "Inner Guru" and its nature will be revealed; The whole Spiritual Process of Kriya Yoga and Spirituality, in general, will be explained; The sharing of a new discovery regarding the Higher Kriyas, the Final Special Kriya, never shared before in the literature of Kriya, will boost your practice beyond belief; It also includes the techniques of the First Kriya, with an in-depth explanation on how to quickly achieve Kechari Mudra that is not found anywhere else; The most powerful Kundalini awakening technique that Gurus and organizations rarely teach will be given at the end of the First Kriya; The ultimate question whether Kriya Yoga can lead you all the way to True Enlightenment will be answered; Lahiri Mahasaya and other True Masters' words will be used throughout the book to support what is written; And much more. This book will help you become free from the dogmas and beliefs created by the Kriya Gurus, organizations and Kriya literature, and also help you awaken the essential discernment needed to take that very important step forward, toward yourself, toward your True Self, the Infinite Consciousness within you. By exposing the truth about some organizations and Gurus, I'm sure their followers will want to give bad reviews to this book. Either that or their newly awakened discernment will help them make a huge breakthrough toward True Enlightenment. I will take that risk. And so should you.

"Serpent of Fire is a ground-breaking book about Kundalini and its relationship to psychological vitality and spiritual transformation. Through author Darrel Irving's own experience, Joseph's Campbell's documentation of kundalini, and the case histories of Gop Krisha and others, readers learn that kundalini is more than a spiritual concept, a religious illusion, or a new age fantasy. Kundalini is real. It is a subtle energy at the base of the spine that when unleashed becomes a powerful force leading to altered and higher states of consciousness. Kundalini is a curative process if approached with knowledge and understanding, for kundalini is healing -- it is the mechanism of evolution contained in the human body. The potential for the kundalini experience exists in every person on the planet."--Back cover
